Stephanos of Byzantium - Ethnika
Abakainon: a city in Sicily, neuter, with an acute on the antepenult and with the penult written with a diphthong, as per Herodian, in book 13 of his On Neuters. He says that it is a Karian city, which we have not been able to find. It is, however, a particular region of the Sikels. The ethnonym is 'Abakaininos', as in 'Akragantinos', a formation that is not unusual among the Sikels: 'Metapontinos', 'Leontinos', 'Brentesinos', 'Terentinos', 'Arretinos', 'Assorinos', 'Erykinos'.
