Abakainon: a city in Sicily; it is neuter, proparoxytone, and its penultimate syllable is written with a diphthong, as Herodian says in book 13 of On Neuters. He says that it is a Karian city, which we have not been able to find. It is a certain district of the Sikels. The ethnic is 'Abakaininos', as 'Akragantinos', a form which is not unusual among the Sikels: 'Metapontinos', 'Leontinos', 'Brentesinos', 'Terentinos', 'Arretinos', 'Assorinos', 'Erykinos'.
