Κύζικος

Kyzikos: a city in the Propontis, situated on a peninsula. It used also to be called Arktos nesos; the ethnonym is 'Kyzikenos', and in poetry 'Kyzikenis'. Homer says that those who inhabit Kyzikos are Doliones, as those who inhabit Ismaros are Kikones. The possessive 'Kyzikenikos' is also used. They have also used the simple form 'Kyzikenos' in place of the possessive, as in 'Tyrsenian [bonds]' instead of 'Tyrrhenian', meaning the harsh ones, because the Tyrrhenians were piratical.
