Stephanos of Byzantium - Ethnika
Berenikidai: a deme of the Ptolemaid tribe. For the Athenians, having ten tribes, added two, calling them Antigonis and Demetrias, and later Attalis and Ptolemais, having been benefited by the eponymous kings. Whence also they made the council, which was of five hundred, six hundred; for each tribe had fifty, who held the prytany by month. From Berenike the daughter of Magas, wife of Ptolemy, the demesmen were named Berenikidai. For other too were expressed patronymically: Aithalidai and Boutadai. For to the place they say 'to Berenikidon', and for in the place 'in Berenikidon'.
