Gyaros: an island, one of the Sporades, said in the feminine. Antigonos of Karystos says that on it the mice gnaw through iron, and that the wild pear there is deadly, and if you graft it onto another tree it withers it. The sting of the sea-ray also does this, and rots the teeth when applied. The ethnonym Gyareus.
