Stephanos of Byzantium - Ethnika
Charakmoba: a city in what is now Third Palaistine, which Ptolemy records in book 5 of his Geography among the Arabian places of Arabia Fellix, Arabia phelix, Arabya Felyx, Arrabia Felix">Arabia Felix. Ouranios also records it in his Arabika; he is a trustworthy man in such matters, for he made it his concern to investigate the affairs of Arabia accurately. He also calls it 'Moboucharaka'. A citizen is a 'Charakmobenos' from 'Charakmoba', and a 'Moboucharakenos' from 'Charax, Moboucharrax, Moboukharax, Mobucharax">Moboucharax', since 'Charakenos' is also from 'Charax', as we shall show, while the ethnonym from 'Moaba' is 'Moabites'. Glaukos in book 4 of his Arabian Archaeology: ‘The Charakmobenians remained quiet among these.’
