Chora: Chora, the particular land, from which the verb 'cho', from which also 'chon' and 'chthon' and 'chorike' land. From which also 'choros', whence 'chorites', as from 'mesos' 'mesites', 'topos' 'topites', or from 'chora' 'chorites', as from 'hedra' 'hedrites', 'hespera' 'hesperites'. Sophocles in the Aegeus: "we heard. I for my part do not see a countryman ". And in the Heracles: "they rear a guardian of the spring, a serpent of the country ". And Aeschylus in the satyr-play Lion: "bane of wayfarers, a serpent of the country ". And Apollonius in the Kanobos: "and the sweet voyage of ships will delight you, the countryman, bringing the gifts of the rich Nile". And 'chorios' is not compound, but 'enchorios' and 'epichorios' are customary, from 'in the country' and 'on the country', as from 'in a place' 'entopios' and from 'out of a place' 'ektopios'. 'Enchorios' occurs also in Sophocles. And 'epichorios' and 'epichoriazein' Plato uses in the work On the Soul.
