Πόλις, [ὄνομα πόλεως Αἰγυπτίας]. ὁ οἰκήτωρ πολίτης καὶ πολιεύς. Πολιεύς γὰρ ὁ Ζεὺς τιμᾶται, ἀπὸ τῆς πόλιος γενικῆς, κατὰ τροπὴν τοῦ « ος » εἰς « ευς ». τὸ δὲ θηλυκὸν τοῦ πολιεύς πολίεια. λέγεται καὶ ἄλλο θηλυκὸν πολιάς, ὡς Σουνιάς.
