Stephanos of Byzantium - Ethnika
Syrnos: Syrna, a city of Caria. It was founded by Podaleirios; for having been cast ashore in Caria he was saved by a goatherd and brought to Damaithos, king of Caria, whose daughter Syrna, having fallen from the roof, was cured by him. He says thus: "when Damaithos was in despair, Podaleirios, drawing blood from each of her arms, saved the girl, and he in admiration married the girl to him and gave him the peninsula; in which he founded two cities, calling the one Syrnos after wife, and the other after the herdsman who had saved him ". The ethnonym 'Syrnioi'. The feminine 'Syrnias'.
