Αἰγόσθενα, πόλις Μεγαρίδος, οὐδετέρως, ὡς Παυσανίας. τὸ ἐθνικὸν ὤφειλεν Αἰγοσθενεύς, ὡς Μεγαρεύς. Πολύβιος δ´ Αἰγοσθενίτην φησίν, ὡς Γάβαλα Γαβαλίτης. Ἀρκάδιος δ´ Αἰγοσθένειαν αὐτήν φησι καὶ Φωκίδος πόλιν.

Aigosthena: a city of the Megarid, neuter, as Pausanias. The ethnonym ought to be Aigostheneus, as 'Megareus'. Polybios says Aigosthenites, as 'Gabala' 'Gabalites'. Arkadios calls it Aigostheneia and a city of Phokis.
