Stephanos of Byzantium - Ethnika
Alopekonnesos: a city of the Hellespontine Chersonese, founded according to an oracle which ordered that where they should see the cubs of a fox, there they should settle a city. The ethnonym Alopekonnesios. They were so named because, when they were founding the city, a fox carrying a cub from elsewhere set it down.
