Ἄμαθα, οὐδετέρως, τῆς Ἀραβίας χωρίον, ὅπερ μετὰ τοῦ « κ » νῦν λέγουσιν Ἄκμαθα. κέκληται δὲ ἀπὸ τῆς ἄμμου. φασὶ γὰρ τὸ πολὺ τῆς Ἀραβίας ὑπὸ τῆς Ἐρυθρᾶς πάλαι κατακλύζεσθαι. οἱ οἰκήτορες Ἀμαθηνοί.

Amatha: neuter, a place of Arabia, which they now call with 'k' Akmatha. It is named from sand. For they say the greater part of Arabia was of old flooded by the Red Sea. The inhabitants Amathenoi.
