Ἄρειος πάγος, ἀκρωτήριον Ἀθήνησιν, ὡς Ἀπολλόδωρος ἐν τῷ περὶ θεῶν ἐνάτῳ, ἐν ᾧ τὰς φονικὰς κρίσεις ἐδίκαζον, διὰ τὰς ἀπὸ τοῦ σιδήρου γινομένας μιαιφονίας. Φιλόχορος δ´ ἐν Ἀτθίδος δευτέρῳ βιβλίῳ, ὅτι Ἁλιρρόθιον τὸν Ποσειδῶνος ἀποθανεῖν ὑπὸ Ἄρεος βιαζόμενον τὴν Ἀλκίππην τὴν αὐτοῦ θυγατέρα. τὸ ἐθνικὸν ἐκ δύο ἓν Ἀρεοπαγίτης. ἔστι καὶ ἐν Ῥώμῃ Ἄρειον πεδίον τὸ ἐθνικὸν ἔδει Ἀρειοπεδιεύς, ἀλλ´ οὐχ ἁρμόζει Ῥωμαίοις ὁ τύπος. ἔσται οὖν τοῦ πεδίον πεδῖνος ἢ πεδιανός καὶ Ἀρεοπεδῖνος καὶ Ἀρεοπεδιανός. ἔστι καὶ Θρᾴκης ἔρημον πεδίον χαμαιπετῆ δένδρα ἔχον, ὡς Πολύβιος τρισκαιδεκάτῃ.
