Kabassos: a city in Cappadocia, homeland of Othryoneus. Homer: 'who was there from Kabessos'. Hekataios of Miletos says that Kabessos is a city after one has crossed Thracian Haimos. And the expectation of marriage also accords with the shamelessness of the Thracians. Hellanikos says that Kabessos is a city in Lycia. Apion says more correctly that it is a village in Kappadokia between Tarsos and Mazaka. The Kappadokian Mazaka used to be called Kaisareia. As an ethnonym the Homeric 'Kabesothen' suffices; for there are many of this type, like 'Kameirothen', the locative terms functioning as ethnonyms. 'Kabesios' or 'Kabesites' is also possible.
