Καρπασία, πόλις Κύπρου, ἣν Πυγμαλίων ἔκτισεν, ὡς Ἑλλάνικος ἐν τοῖς Κυπριακοῖς. Διονύσιος δὲ διὰ διφθόγγου Κραπάσειαν αὐτήν φησιν ἐν τρίτῳ Βασσαρικῶν “ἠδ´ ὁπόσοι Κινύρειον ἰδ´ αἰπεινὴν Κραπάσειαν”. ἔστι καὶ νῆσος Καρπασία κατὰ τὴν ἄκραν τὴν Σαρπηδονίαν. Ξεναγόρας δὲ Κάρπαθον αὐτήν φησι. Δημήτριος δ´ ὁ Σαλαμίνιος Καρβασίαν φησίν, ὅτι πρὸς τὸν καλούμενον κάρβαν ἄνεμον κεῖσθαι δοκεῖ. ὁ πολίτης Καρπασεώτης ὡς Μαρεώτης. καὶ τὸ κτητικὸν Καρπασεωτικός καὶ Καρπασεωτικὴ ἄκρα. Θεόπομπος ἐν δεκάτῳ Καρπασεῖς αὐτούς φησιν, ἴσως ἀπὸ τοῦ Κάρπασος, ὡς Ἀντίοχος Ἀντιοχεύς, ἀφ´ οὗ Καρπάσεια.

Karpasia: a city in Cyprus, which Pygmalion founded, as per Hellanikos in his Kypriaka. Dionysios, however, says it is 'Krapaseia', with a diphthong, in book 3 of his Bassarika: 'and those who live in Kinyreion and steep Krapaseia'. There is also an island Karpasia by the Sarpedonian promontory, but Xenagoras says that one is 'Karpathos'. Demetrios of Salamis says 'Karbasia' because it seems to be situated towards the wind called 'Karbas'. A citizen is a 'Karpaseotes'. Also, the possessive is 'Karpaseotikos', and there is also a 'Karpaseotike' headland. Theopompos says they are 'Karpaseis' in book 10, perhaps from Karpasos, from which is 'Karpaseia'.
